UTAH FSG TRANSCRIPT
August 14, 2004
Donny: You ask how long I'll love you, I'll tell you true (puts water in mouth), Until the Twelfth of Never…. (Donny laughing). OK. Am I reading these questions? Hey Tina, what am I doing here? Am I reading these questions?
Tina: These are the questions that came in the newsletter about the CD promotion.
Donny: These are the questions that came in the newsletter about the CD promotion. Is that what I'm supposed to say?
Tina: Do you want to do these or do you want to do their questions?
Donny: I think we do their questions. Yeah. Yeah. Start over here. No questions. Start over there. No questions. There's a question right there.
Question: Question about whether he'll record any old stuff
Donny: Am I going to record any of the old stuff? I almost did "The Twelfth of Never" on this last album.
Someone suggests "Hey Girl"
Donny: Hey girl, I want you to know. I , la, la, la, la, (he forgot the words)… so much if you go. Bye bye baby. Uh-Uh (shaking head no). Oh yes, I did want to mention one thing…there is a visitor, a gentleman, that I would like to recognize. He's almost a father figure to me. He's ahh, I like to emulate him. He's my mentor, you know. He's smart. He's the guy that takes care of all the technical aspects of the website. You know, Jeremy gets a lot of credit, right? But this guy, he is like the top and he deserves a standing ovation. Ryan Romero right there. Ryan Romero in the house. (audience clapping) We love you Ryan, oh yes we do. We love you Ryan, …be true, whenever Donny.com breaks, where are you? Ryan we love you. Anyway, thanks Ryan for all you do. ( Laughing)…hates my guts right now. Any other questions in this vicinity? Right there.
Question: How did you put this group together with Jason and Paul and Kat and Tom?
Donny: Oh, the musical band?
Question: How'd they all come together?
Donny: Made a couple of calls. Any more questions? (Laughing) You know you're not going to get anything serious out of me tonight. I'm really giddy right now. Paul I've known ever since I was an embryo. I met Paul when I was doing "Soldier of Love" and then Jason, he played sax for me on the "Soldier of Love" tour and then that relationship continued. Kat came through the Prince connections with Jill and Paul. Frank, I can't remember (laughing) and Kevin, I can't remember. It just happened. I don't know, but we have fun on stage that's for sure.
Someone in audience comments that he was just there one day.
Donny: Yeah, he just showed up and said, "I want to play keyboards for you." and I said "OK". Kevin is the greatest guy. He is the greatest guy. I love Kev. He had so much personality onstage. He's just the shy one of the band, and there is a picture (laughing) I've got to tell you, of Jason (laughing). When you see the new video, watch the song , it's not "Should Have Known Better, "Would I Lie to You" (he sings a little of the song). I go to Tom OK and Tom does his solo and then I go over to Paul and when I walk over to Paul Jason is behind me and he looks like the devil (laughing). And he is sitting on my shoulder and he looks like the Joker in Batman and the lighting on him he just looks evil on stage. Anyway, I don't know what brought that on? Any other questions? Yes?
Question: Can we get the Breeze on By video here in the United States?
Donny: If we can find somebody to play it. We're going to try to get VHI to play it and we're going to work it as hard as we can. That's a whole discussion we could have about the promotional aspects, but I would love to get it on everywhere but MTV is not going to play it. Hopefully VHI will. In the back…
Question: Could you arrange to get the Ushi video over here in the US?
Donny: That was one of the funniest things I've ever done.
Question: The whole hour.
Donny: The whole hour was just nothing but laughs.
Question: Morning or evening?
Donny (cracks up).
Audience: Both
Donny: Yeah, thank you very much.
Question: Have you considered having a page on your site where the members of DO IT can download PDF files of fliers, small posters, form letters, press releases?
Donny: That's a very good question and I don't know if that's the way we are going to do it but here again I am meeting with the record company on Monday and Tuesday. Once we put the whole campaign together, you will all know exactly what you are going to do, whether it be download PDFs that you will all print out. I don't know if we're going to do that because it really depends on a person's printer. That's something I can't control. I would much rather send you CDs and materials. That's what I'd like to do. I don't know if that's even feasible or if that's what the record company wants me to do but I would much rather supply you with the materials so that everything is consistent and not worry about somebody's printer running out of ink. So that's most likely what I'm going to do.
Question: Will you be ready and willing to make calls in to radio stations if they want to interview you about the new CD. How about print phone interviews, will you make yourself available for this?
Donny: Well the simple answer to that is absolutely. That's why I'm not doing the tour because all that time and then some is going to be spent working the phones, working the television people, all that kind of stuff. So I've got my work cut out for me so I'm asking you to work just as hard. But you've got to do me a favour. Work smart. We can't bombard them too much, but we've got to let people know that for Pete's sakes, how do I put this, for Pete's sake it's great music. I know some people will say that's an egotistical statement, but for Pete's sakes I've worked my butt off and I can't take the crap anymore.
Question: Will the CD for the UK and the US markets be the same or will they have different materials, covers, etc?
Donny: I don't know the answer to that and I won't know until next week. They have more than the 14 songs that are on this UK CD. So they may say, "we want this one substituted for this one." And I'll hear them out and see what they have to say. And if I like the ideas, their battle plan, then I'll go with it. So I really don't know the answer to that.
Question: We are worried about overzealous fans alienating radio stations. Please set strict limitations on what fans should and should not do.
Donny: There will be strict limitations because in the radio promotion business you can tick people off. You have to be careful because they are bombarded every day. I am one artist of thousands of artists. Do you know how much music comes out on a daily basis and they're bombarded? No wonder radio stations are fragmenting their play lists you know and specializing in just specifics and not playing the gamut because there's just so much material out there. So we've got to work smart.
Question: Question regarding UK
Donny: It's going to be a TV and radio campaign in the UK.
Question: Further question about UK
Donny: Starting in September there will be television ads that are going to start. That's the way we're going to do it all. On the last album we had "An Audience With" show to launch the record. We don't have that. So this radio thing that I'm doing for the BBC on the 8th of September, I think it's the 8th and 9th..one in Glasgow as well. That is pretty much the nationwide launch. It's going to be such a fun gig. Maybe some of you know about it and maybe you don't. But it's twelve songs or so, and I haven't really come up with the play list yet or the set list, but it's going to be completely unplugged, completely. It's going to be a concert, maybe 150 people, broadcast on the radio. And I'm going to be doing the album. I don't know about some of the oldies, because this is all about the new record and it's going to be completely unplugged.
Question: Can we get tickets?
Donny: I don't know. I really don't know if there are going to be tickets available or not. It's only 150 people.
Audience says, "We're here."
Donny: Yeah, let's do it right now.
Question: Donny, WPLJ in New York has an unplugged session once a week where they interview a singer and they do an unplugged version of some of their songs. Would you be interested in doing this?
Donny: Absolutely I would do that. You have to be invited to do things like that. PLJ and I have a history with "Soldier of Love". I did it on Star 98 in Los Angeles a couple of years ago when the Christmas album came out. I love doing stuff like that where you sit down at the piano and maybe have a guitar player and another keyboard player and you just sing. You just let the music speak for itself. Of course, if those opportunities were there I would run with them.
Question: Hi Donny. Any chances of a live CD from the recent concerts? The "Somewhere In Time" versions just aren't enough anymore.
Donny: It's actually a good idea. I don't know if it's going to happen because of the DVD. It really facilitates a live CD because that's what it is and that's what I've been doing the last couple weeks is putting that concert together on a disc. So I guess that's the answer. We are coming out with a live CD but there's going to be pictures. Dangerous while you're driving.
Question: Hi Donny. Will we be given promos of the CDs to hand out to radio stations or will these be distributed automatically by your management company. Looking forward very much to the CD release here in the UK? Regards, Janet.
Donny: Here is what I am going to propose to the record company next week, that I send the materials to you and that I keep track of who has what. Now granted, you're going to be getting free CDs, whoever is going to be designated to be the representative to go to the radio station. You're going to have these CDs. I'm going to ask you to be professional about it. You're going to be, you know, it's different. You're not going to go out and be buying these CDs. You're going to be getting a bunch of them to pass out because it's all about getting the music out to the masses, just getting the music out. But you've got to place them wisely, carefully and make sure that you're conscientious about where you place the CDs, where you're going to get the biggest bang for the buck. Give it to cynics. Just say, "Look I know you're a Donny Osmond hater, Check it out." You're planting seeds basically. You know, just get the music out. The more people we can have talk about the music the better. Hearsay is fine but they've got to hear it. They've got to hear the music.
Question: Will there be a separate email list for DO IT information only? Will information be sent out daily, weekly or as necessary by email or will it only be sent out once a month with the Dnews? Sometimes it's necessary to get information out quickly to other team members. Will members be able to communicate with each other through the list, a forum or some other method?
Donny: There will be, well we haven't really laid it all out yet and we won't know until next week. But rest assured, when we come up with this plan, whoever has been designated to be those point people, they are going to get information constantly. But here's the key. It's not enough for me to give you information through Donny.com. I have to get it back. There has got to be a reporting system. Lynn is going to be, she'll be coordinating on a national level, then there's going to be regional coordinators. It's going to be a slick system. Now I am going to say something that everybody needs to take in the right tone. When you put people together to work together you really run the risk of somebody getting offended. OK. I did my my best but my best wasn't good enough. Everything you do will be appreciated. You may not get an immediate thank you. You may not get an email from me or Tina or Lynn or your regional director. But we're all volunteering to get it out there. So do me a favour, and this goes to the people watching on the video streaming or reading it on the transcript. Don't get offended. If something happens, if you think somebody said something about your abilities or lack of, don't get offended. We're all working together on this thing. We all have a common cause, it's to further the music. And you all know how much I appreciate it. That goes without saying how much I appreciate your willingness to do that. But I am going to ask you to work hard but you may not get an immediate thank you because there's going to be so many people involved in this. So, just keep plugging away. Keep forging ahead. If there are, this is another thing I would like to create and I'm thinking kind of off the top of my head here and that's dangerous. But I've analyzed successful companies. I'm able and I'm very fortunate to be able to be associated with very successful people in the world and people who turn companies around that are faltering, turn businesses around that are failing. And one of the great things that works is feedback. So just not giving you information but receiving information from you as, you know suggestions, problems, issues. There's going to be filtering to where the most important ones really get back to me. There will be a lot of stuff that we have to filter it down. I just don't have time to read every single thing. So it'll be filtered down to me and that will eventually go to the record company who will fix the problems. But I do want to hear from people in the field. "This needs to be fixed." "This is what they are saying." "This is what we know." All of that is great information for me to then say, "All right let's do this." There's got to be coordination. If the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing you might as well not do this. So it will come from me. I will make the shots. I will call the shots, excuse me. Rest assured of that. But I do want to hear from all of you as well.
Tina points out question on list.
Donny: Well, yeah, we haven't set that up too but that's definitely one of the ideas. We want to create almost like the forum that we have right now to where all of you not only can bring information to me but you can start saying, "Hey this worked in my area, why don't you try it in yours?" It doesn't have to come from me. You can cross-communicate if you will with each other. "This really worked in Cleveland so it might work in Dallas." You know, whatever, and then you try those things. But the danger there is that now I lose control and now I don't know what everybody is out there, what's going on out there. So there's going to be some monitoring on what's going on on the forum and if you get a message either from me or my associates, "Don't do that, again", don't be offended because there's a reason, there's a bigger picture involved here that we don't want that specific thing happening right now. So you've got to work with me. OK?
Question: Donny, doing CD signings the way you did book signings with your autobiography would help make it a big seller the way the book tour made it a big success.
Donny: Most definitely. That's going to happen. I mentioned to somebody earlier that I did a Walmart signing. I think I mentioned it over there. And to me doing a Walmart signing is not a step down. It's called promotion. It's called moving the product, it's called moving CDs. And if someone can get a signed CD who may not go to a Donny Osmond concert or even buy a Donny Osmond CD, you place it into somebody's hand who probably wouldn't have it in the first place. So most definitely. CD signings, big ones.
Someone in audience mentions Mall of America
Donny: Mall of America, absolutely do Mall of America. But when you do things like that you have to understand that you've got to promote it properly because if it's not promoted properly and 12 people show up it's like, "whatever happened to his career?" When you do things, this is the way show business works, kind of like a little insight. . It's all down to promotion . Do you know why Joseph worked for me? Yes, it was a good show. Yes we all worked very hard. Garth Rabinski, do you know how much money he spent in advertising? In Chicago, I pick Chicago but Toronto was the same way, I was in the newspaper every day, colour ads, full colour ads. That takes a lot of money. Ticket prices were high. You know why they were high? Because he was pumping money into the show. So what happens is you can have a fantastic show but if 2 people show up then that's a bad name for the show. No matter how good the show is the word gets around town nobody is going it mustn't be very good. The word of mouth is bad. So when you do a CD signing at Mall of America you promote it like crazy weeks and weeks before so when you do show up it's like (he snaps fingers) that's an event. That's the way we're going to do this because if we try to do this too grass roots and begging them "Please play this, please play this" it's kind of like he's desperate, you know. So we've got to do it smart.
Question: question about QVC
Donny: QVC? Don't know. I would love to do QVC, but here again…
Someone in audience mentions QVC and Mall America
Donny: Well see, things like that, these are suggestions that we're going to have in this forum. Can we make suggestions for promotional ideas or merchandise? No. Most definitely. These ideas, it's really funny how it works. When you sign a record deal and you're dealing with record companies, there is a person sitting in an office trying to come up with ideas (scratching head), "What about a CD signing at Mall of America?" But if you've got hundreds of people coming up with ideas, think of the resources and then all those can get channelled through me and then I go to the record company and say "These are the things that could work" and then they go to Mall of America and get the big guns involved.
Question: (Not able to hear the question)
Donny: Most definitely I'm very concerned about that. That's why there has got to be coordination. That's why you've really got to watch your regional director.
Question: How will the choosing process work.
Donny: I don't know how the choosing process is going to take place unless you have an idea Lynn.
Lynn: I wasn't listening.
Donny: We need another coordinator. No, how are we going to chose the regional directors? We haven't really figured that out yet.
Question about UK
Donny: Don't know about UK because the UK is really kind of set. It's flying. I don't know if you're going to need to do anything. I'm going to talk to Steve Dunwitty, Dinwitty, Steve…Steve is the greatest guy, he's my radio promotion, he's really a good guy and I worry that we're going to destroy what he's kind of setting up here with a very meticulous plan that he's set up. I will let you know absolutely. This is mainly a US campaign that we're mounting here.
Someone reminds him of Canada
Donny: North America, excuse me. That's what I meant to say. "That's what I meant to say. Help me I'm falling…"
Question: Question about date of release in Canada and delay on last album
Donny: Hold on. (He types into Blackberry) I will find out and I will let you know because that's a whole other territory and they have their own release dates. I know it, I know. But you must understand that when like Australia and New Zealand, they will release the record but they'll really get behind it if they know I'm coming to promote it and I have to go down there to promote it. Yeah, probably '83. Same thing with Canada. They'll release it but they really won't get behind it unless I am up there promoting it.
Question: Will there be a specific genre of radio station that you're going to direct us towards?
Donny: Yes. I'm sure, here again, I've got to wait for the record company to put their sanction on it but it's definitely going to be easy listening, MOR, or AC radio.
Question: (Can't really hear all the talk) I think it's asking about specific markets…
Donny: Most definitely because there's an audience there. (Donny types in Blackberry again) See these are great ideas, these are wonderful ideas. By the way I was going to mention about Pyramid. Yes it was cancelled but PAX did pick it up and the last word I heard was that if the ratings were good, and they anticipate good ratings, we would probably continue the show. But that's not an announcement that the show is going to continue. It's just that there is potential for it to continue if the ratings are good.
Question: Two things, we fought like heck to keep that on, did they ever have the decency to tell you why they cancelled it?
Donny: You know, they never did. No, it's not cool. No, it's not cool and there really hasn't been any good explanation as to why it was cancelled. I haven't got any. I still don't get it. I really don't because it was doing well. I mean it's still doing well, the ratings are still good.
Question: Is there going to be a single released in the US?
Donny types in Blackberry again
Donny: That's a very good point.
Question: Will internet radio be targeted, such as AOLRadio, Real Music Launch, etc.
Donny types in Blackberry again
Question: Here in the States Donny what kind of effort is your record label willing to put behind the release of the single/CD.
Donny: That's pretty much redundant.
Question: What are they willing to do?
Donny: What are they willing to do? Time will tell. I was told by the president of the company that, I guess I can disclose this. I was told that mistakes were made on "Somewhere in Time", that they anticipated certain things happening on the heels of Pyramid that didn't. It got lost in the shuffle and they made mistakes. They recognize that. They have also told me that they are so excited about this new record that they are going to make good on those mistakes. So that's, I guess that answers it, they have told me. You know, talk is cheap but I don't think it's cheap with them because they believe in me otherwise they would have kicked me off the label a long time ago. You have no idea how hard it is to get a record deal today. People who have sold millions of records are getting kicked off the labels. I'm not getting kicked off. It's unbelievable. So that shows me and tells me that they are behind this. They're really going to work hard.
Question: (Can't hear question)
Donny: Most definitely because touring is so important. A record is one thing, but once you get the believers or once you get the cynics starting to believe, then they're going to want to see something. I don't think it's going to be in 2005, very honestly. I don't think so. Come on over to England. I don't know if it's going to be 2005. I know there is going to be a tour of some sort at the end of 2005 that is being targeted for Europe. But having said that, depending upon what happens to the release of the record and if we can get something happening, there's a tour already mounted in 2005, why not do some stuff in the US either prior to or after the tour because you've got everybody together. It all depends on my strength obviously if I can handle a three month tour because I know the European tour is going to be pretty extensive because we're going to start to work Germany. We're going to start to work Holland. We're going to start to work probably Spain, you know all those territories over there. So that's going to take it's toll health wise you know in stamina. But I am going to try. I am going to try to at least do some dates, whether they be small club dates or whatever they might be in the States because you've got to do it in certain key markets.
Question: Hi Donny, I know you are a fan of Brian McKnight and I was curious if you two would ever sing together.
Donny: I would love to sing with Brian. That would be awesome. I hooked up my nephew David with Brian and they're working on an album right now and apparently it's sounding really good. Apparently it's taking a little longer than they anticipated but he said it's really sounding good. But there's nothing in the works with Brian right now. Here again, it all gets down to what can I bring to the table and here in the States I'm a celebrity but can I really bring anything to Brian McKnight's table? Not until something happens.
Question: Is there anyone else you want to do a duet with?
Donny: You? Is that what you're getting at? No, not right now. No, nothing that really lights my fire so to speak. It all depends on if it's good marketing because there's a lot of talented artists out there but if it doesn't make sense as a package I won't do it.
Question: What about talk shows like "Larry King Live" or "Barbara Walters"?
Donny: It's all part and parcel of the promotional process if you can get the gig. I would love to do a "Today" show appearance, but only if it makes sense to them. If we get things happening in radio and there's starting to be some ground swell, well the "Today" show will call me. I don't have to call them. Larry King will call me if something unbelievable is happening in the country, there's another resurgence of Donny Osmond after 40 years of being in the business. And only if there's a story that's interesting will the producers say, "We've got to do this." That's how it all works. You can't buy yourself into it. You can't talk them into it. It's got to be something because they want viewers. They want numbers. They've got to get numbers and so it's got to be an interesting story. So that's what we're trying to do is we're going to try to create an interesting story that this guy has been singing for 42 years or whatever and he's got another hit record. That's a story and Larry King will jump on that and the "Today" show will jump on that. That's what we're trying to do.
Question: How far ahead of the release date will the single be available on the UK radio stations. We're now requesting your newer music. If we just ask for your music we always get Puppy Love. But it would be useful to know when is a good time to start requesting "Breeze on By" when radio stations actually have it.
Donny: When will they have it? Radio stations are being serviced right now. They have the record in their hands, if not now they will in the next week or so. Program directors have it. It's being sent out en masse at this moment. So if you start calling the radio stations here in the next week or so they will have it. If they get those requests, I don't know about the States, that's a question I'm going to have to ask the record company, but as soon as they have it in their hands, you get on those phones baby. You get on the phones. We don't want to drive them crazy but we want to let them know you're there, you know. That's what it takes. Not just you calling but getting your friends to call. Just say, "Request the record." One thing you want to avoid is when this thrust comes, you don't want a peak of stuff going on and then it drops because then they know it's a promotion and they get it every day. You want this, you want it to climb. So you call. Get your friends to call. Build the word. You know, play it for people. You're going to have CDs. Give them out. Give them to people. You don't want to give away too many because then you negate the sale factor but give them out. Say, "Listen to this." And plus what you're going to have you'll probably have 3 or 4 songs on the CD, not the whole record. Give the record out. "Here's the single and there's more coming." It's called promotion.
Question: Hi Donny. A few years ago in advance of your new CD going on sale you performed a mini concert on one of the home shopping networks to help promote it. Viewers were able to call in and pre-order the CD prior to its release date. Is this something that you're planning on doing this time around? If so, that could be something that DO IT could help promote as well. Just a though.
Donny: Another good, back on the QVC thing, a very good point, pre-sales. I don't know. That's a record company issue. I don't know if they're going to do that or not. But I'll do the show, absolutely.
Question: I was wondering does your management contact the venues, do they request you or none of the above? What I am getting at is if we flood phone calls to a particular venue, let's just say Carnegie Hall in New York, and ask when do the tickets go on sale for Donny Osmond, or is Donny Osmond appearing there. Would it help in a way?
Donny: Absolutely not. It doesn't work that way. Nope. You get a promoter and the promoter brings you in. That's how it all works. You can drive a venue crazy. Or the other way it works is your agent, I work with William Morris, he goes out and he gets promoters. That's how the whole concert thing works. You get radio stations involved to promote it. I mean it's a very very complex system how it works. It's not like a radio station. And even radio stations are getting very very complicated to get a record played. So it's not that easy. But it still doesn't negate the fact that you've got to get the ground swell going. You've got to get people, and the more people that talk and legitimately call up the venue and say, "Hey, is Donny Osmond on the roster?", it will help, but you can't bombard a theatre like Carnegie Call or something and say, "Is Donny Osmond coming?" It doesn't work. It doesn't work that way.
Question: Have you ever thought about recording a CD with Marie?
Donny: Nope. Actually it's an interesting question. Marie doesn't sing much any more. She loves her radio show. I've listened to her a couple of times. It's really good. I think she does a marvellous job. She's always had the gift of gab and that is not an insult. She has always been able to, I mean try to do a talk show with her, you can barely get some words in edgewise. But she does a great job and I am really happy for her because it's really starting to take off. So good on her. But I don't think, I don't think a CD with Marie is the right thing. I don't think so because I've established myself as a solo artist and I think it would send out a message that's going backwards. You know, as good as it might be marketing wise, "Oh here's a cute novelty, listen to Donny and Marie", I don't think it's right. Some day maybe, but not right now.
Question: Hi Donny. Wish I was there. I met your wife Debbie a few times and I was wondering if there was any way she could be persuaded to write a book?
Tina: I'll help her.
Donny: Yeah really. No you won't. I am as big a fan of hers as I am of yours and would love to read about her experiences as a wife and mother and dealing with the ups and downs of your career, etc. If not that, then what about a book on spirituality? She is a very spiritually special person. I would love to read anything she wrote. That's a great idea. But will she do it? I'm going to talk to her about it. She is so wise. She is so smart and she has had so many interesting experiences dealing with my career and raising children.
Question: Dear Donny. Hello. How was it performing with your two oldest sons on tour?
Donny: I thought it was great. Is Jeremy still here? Did Jeremy split? I thought they did an amazing job. They were so good. I hope that they get a chance to perform in the States so you can see them. Well you'll see them on the DVD. But they worked really hard for that gig. And when I came up with the idea I thought, "Well that's cool." I thought, "I'm really taking a chance here", but they both worked really hard. Jeremy just worked his fingers to the bone on the guitar. Don was just practicing the drums every single night and they pulled it off and they really did a good job. So yeah, I think they should do it again some day. And I think Jeremy should get up there…you're talking about this Jeremy, right? (indicating Jeremy Hall) He does a good job. Hey, hey, hey, hey, how do you like the pictures? He took over 7000 pictures, 7 of them were good. Besides Ryan Romero, he is just my hero. I really, Jeremy is my mentor. No, he really is a great guy. He's done such a great job with Donny.com. Last question.
Question: When are you next touring in the UK?
Donny: Well the next tour will be the end of 2005. But the next thing I do, the next bit of promotional work will be this radio show. There'll be some television shows obviously, but the radio thing is going to be really really fun. Musically it's going to be a blast and I can hardly wait to see how it turns out. And it's not even nerve wracking. There's so much, there's so much depending upon the outcome of this show. Like "Audience With", I was really nervous before "Audience With", nervous how it was accepted. I had so much fun on the show with the brothers coming out and all that kind of stuff. But I can hardly wait to do this radio show because really when you get right down to it, yeah, it's not about, yeah, I have fun getting on stage. It's fun being a celebrity. It's fun being a star and all that kind of stuff. But if you break it right down to the rudiments of why I do what I do, it's the music. It's getting out there and signing the music, performing the music, and I think the reason, I mentioned this on tour, why I loved this tour as much as I did was because it's lyrics that I wrote. It's stuff that I meant to say, songs I've meant to write and I've always wanted to get to this level of my career and it's here where it's just about the music. It's not about being a star. It's not about the celebrity. It's not about the novelty of the comeback kid. I mean, how many times do I need to make a come back? But it's about getting out there and singing a song. That's what it's all about and that's what I need your help on because I want to get out there and sing to the masses before I get too old! We have pretty much run out of time. We've got to do pictures, we're going to do, but I'm going to ask for your help in something. My little boy just got back from scouting camp and I haven't seen him in a couple of days. He's waiting for me at home, my little Christopher. Joshua wants to see me before he goes to bed. I go to New York tomorrow, so I need to get home as quickly as possible. So I'm asking you when we take the pictures let's do it quickly, as quickly as we possibly can. I would appreciate it very much. Let me just say because this is pretty much the last time because once you take the pictures, everybody is going to be scattering. Thanks for coming. I hope you had a great time. We'll do more of these because it's a great way to reciprocate because yeah I work a lot, but you give me a lot too and you've been with me for many many years and that doesn't go unnoticed and unappreciated. So thanks for being here. Oh yes, and I do want to, not just because you just wrote me a note, but Angie and Lynn have done so much to coordinate this that they deserve a round of applause. OK, they'll get the big head, be careful. They're going to work hard. I'm going to put them through a lot of work, especially Lynn. Well Angie, you're going to be working too aren't you on this CD promotion, on DO IT? Okay, so they're going to start coordinating all this stuff and thanks for being a part of Donny.com. I really appreciate it. Have a great evening. Be careful going home and let's get these pictures….
Audience: We're staying here.
Donny: No, be careful when you do go home. Oh, you're staying in Provo? All right come over to my house. Let's have a party!

Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations too the spirit. If you compare yourself with others you become vain and bitter, for there will always be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your career however humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let not this blind you to what virtue there is, many persons strive for high ideals and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself, especially do not feign affection, neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the council of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture the strength of spirit to shield you against sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with wild imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle on yourself. You are a child of the Universe, no less than the trees and the stars. You have a right to be here. And whether it is clear to you or not, no doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul. With all it's shame drudgery and broken dreams it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
